Arlen Spector Squash Court

Transforming a 1916 armory to a state of the art squash facility in Philadelphia, PA

Project Description:

From a 1916 armory to a premier Squash Center. Plans for the Specter Center were laid in 2011. The new facility will feature eighteen singles courts, all-glass exhibition courts, the U.S. Squash Hall of Fame, and the US Squash’s national headquarters. DJM’s role in this operation was to produce and procure constructable mechanical pipe and related equipment drawings and 3D models following the basis of the designs created by the project engineering team.

Description of how DJM helped:

As Philadelphia locals, the DJM team was thrilled to coordinate the mechanical pipe and equipment and be involved in adding to the city’s rich history. Converting a historic, early-20th century armory into a state-of-the-art athletic facility certainly came with its nuances on the mechanical end. Space was very limited and without the aid of virtual and computer aided design, fitting all the required mechanical pipe would have been an impossible task. DJM was able to model, not only the pipe and equipment, but also custom-made supports in order to maintain the interior’s modern look. From working with the engineers and architects to submitting final fabrication drawings, DJM was present throughout the project!
